Making Slide Gloves

Making Slide Gloves

During construction, protective Eye-Wear and gloves must be worn.

Now you have your new slide board you need to make some slide gloves. Slide gloves have revolutionised skateboarding, they are worn by many for pulling big slides and spins and they also let you corner twice as hard. The big advantage is that they can save you from some pretty nasty injuries in the event of a crash. Being able to slide on your gloves and not your skin is a big advantage for any type of skater.

What you need to make them: All the bits you need can be found at your local Hardware store and are easy to get hold of.

Gloves - Work or Gardening style are fine, its up to you and glove budget really. Just make sure they can take the heat of the plastic and are not too shiny.

Plastic Chopping board - The thicker the better really. Make sure it's at least a cm thick.

Jigsaw - To cut out the pucks.

Blow Torch - this is needed to melt the plastic to adhere it to the gloves.

Step-by-Step making of Glove

First of all, print yourself off one of our puck templates. This puck shape allows you to have a good range of movement and also provides a nice big slide area to help spread the weight.

Template on Chopping Board

Cut out the template and stick it onto your chopping board using d/s tape. Now take your jigsaw and cut out the templates from your chopping board. Pull off any bits of paper from your freshly cut slide pucks and get the blowtorch warmed up.

You will need to heat the chopping board on one side until the surface begins to look transparent and runny looking. When this happens take your glove and push down onto the chopping board in the place were you want it on the glove. Smooth the edges with a spoon where the molten plastic oozes out and leave to cool.

Do this for all three pucks and then do the other hand. And there you have it, two slide gloves ready for action! But remember, everybody who slides likes their pucks a slightly different shape or in a slightly different position. Do not be afraid to experiment with your own designs and patterns and you will be able to create the perfect glove to suit you.
